The mission of the Contemplative Prayer ministry is to kindle our awareness of and deepen our relationship with God through the ancient Christian practice of contemplative prayer. Parishioners of St. James’ Church as well as members of local area faith communities come together to find the practice of contemplative prayer a great support to their everyday work and ministry.
Through this vital and vibrant ministry, parishioners of St. James’ Church and the wider church community are offered the opportunity to live the contemplative dimension of the Gospel through the practice of contemplative prayer. Every Monday evening at 7:00 pm in the worship space, participants engage in the spiritual practices of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina. Throughout the year, the ministry invites all to learn about and experience these and other contemplative prayer practices such a sacred walk through a labyrinth and Taizé worship.
Here is what one participant said about the value of meeting regularly to pray with others: “To be in the prayerful, silent company of others is very powerful. Over time, it is clear to me that this practice is the means by which God is able to work deeply within me in a transformative and healing manner.”
