St. James' Episcopal Church
Nourished by Word and Sacrament, we are sent out to do the work God has given us to do, to love and serve God as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord

Pastoral Associates

Pastoral Associates has a long history at St. James'; this small group ministry was first organized more than 25 years ago. Our focus is on pastoral caregiving within a church context.

Our group numbers about 12, and meets once a month (the third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Janney Parlor) to provide support and encouragement to each other, organize our efforts and assign tasks, and address parish needs.

Important activities include:

  • Taking communion to those unable to attend church (homebound, hospitalized, in nursing homes).
  • Planning and hosting social events, particularly focusing on our senior parishioners.
  • Visiting those confined to home or hospital.
  • Hosting receptions at the church following funerals.
  • Delivering meals to those whose lives are disrupted.

We try particularly to be sensitive to the needs of the parish and its people. For example, we recently initiated the effort to make unused medical equipment available to parishioners who may need them.

You can help! Please let the clergy, a Pastoral Associate, or the Church Office know if you have a pastoral need. If this ministry is something you'd be interested in pursuing, we assure you, the rewards are tremendous.
