Compassion and the love of knitting and crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as celebration and joy. A small but dedicated group of women have quietly and intentionally knit shawls of different designs and colors.
Many blessings are knit into every shawl. Initially, these shawls were given to St. James' parishioners who have been hospitalized for medical treatment or rehabilitation, or are homebound. The ministry expanded when it was decided to knit shawls not only for the sick and infirm but also as gifts from the parish to newly-baptized infants and children.
This ministry meets quarterly, on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Janney Parlor.
